Sociology is the scientific study of human society and its origins, development, organizations, and institutions. It uses various methods of empirical investigation and critical analysis to develop a body of knowledge about human social activity, structures, and functions. This course helps students to gain a critical understanding of the society in which we live.

Students learn how society shapes people’s ideas, social behaviour and cultures and how, in turn, people interact together and shape their societies. The emphasis throughout is on the contemporary United Kingdom.
